Brief Info

The new 143,000 SF two and three-story building for the Woodson Park Academy and YMCA project will house a 120,500 SF K-8 Academy, a 13,500 SF YMCA Early Learning Center, a 6,500 SF community-based YMCA Wellness facility, and a 2,500 SF community health clinic at 1605 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, Atlanta GA. The new facility will meet Atlanta Public Schools’ and the Georgia Department of Education’s current elementary and middle school program requirements, and the school’s current and future enrollment, demolishing the existing school building and single family residential buildings. The school facility is being designed for a full time enrollment (FTE) of 900 based on the Georgia Department of Education Instructional Unit count. The YMCA facility’s Early Learning Center will include six classrooms, serving a student population of approximately 90-100. The project scope for the site includes improved bus and carpool site circulation, code-compliant ADA accessibility to the building and throughout the site, new visitor and staff parking areas, new landscape and hardscape areas, new covered walkways to the building entries, new exterior lighting and signage, and improved security measures. Moreover, the site has deficiencies that will be addressed during the design. These include inadequate bus drop off area, an insufficient quantity of staff parking spaces and inefficient service and loading areas. The target opening date for the new school building is August 2020, construction of which is scheduled to begin June of 2019 and end in August of 2020.
