Steve Jones

JLeading McGraw-Hill Construction’s initiatives in Building Information Modeling, Interoperability, and Integrated Project Delivery is a high priority for Stephen A. Jones. As MHC’s senior director of business development, Steve also creates alliance relationships in technology and content with major corporations. Steve speaks widely on the implications of these new technologies and processes and in 2007 co-authored MHC’s SmartMarket Report on Interoperability, which has been distributed to over 200,000 industry professionals. He also co-authored the SmartMarket Report on BIM, titled Transforming Design and Construction to Achieve Greater Industry Productivity, which was released in December 2008.

Before joining McGraw-Hill, Steve was a vice president with Primavera Systems, a leading project management software provider to the construction industry. Earlier in his career, Steve spent 19 years in a variety of design and management roles with architecture firms. Most recently he was a principal and board of directors member with Burt Hill, one of the largest architectural/engineering firms in the U.S.

Steve is on the Board of Direction of the buildingSMART Alliance, represents MHC on the Process Transformation Committee of CURT (Construction Users Roundtable), and represents MHC on the AGC (Associated General Contractors) BIM Forum.

Edward Hoagland
Virtual Construction Manager, PCL Construction Enterprises Inc.

Edward Hoagland, Virtual Construction Manager for PCL Construction Enterprises Inc., is responsible for leading the implementation of Virtual Construction in PCL's US operations. This includes utilizing virtual construction for PCL's pursuit, preconstruction, construction, and self performed efforts. Ed is also responsible for the recruitment, training, and professional development of PCL's dedicated virtual construction staff across the US..

Ed has led the implementation of virtual construction on over forty projects, totaling more than $4 Billion (US) in volume. Ed has been with PCL since 2005 in this position. Ed travels extensively conducting training, mentoring, and providing implementation support to all of PCL's US operating locations. Ed holds a Bachelors of Architecture degree from the University of Southern California, and has been in the AEC industry for over eight years. At a community level, Ed is a passionate advocate of Virtual Design and Construction, and speaks regularly on the benefits, use, and implementation across the US.

Dennis Humphries, Principal

Dennis Humphries AIA is a co-founder of Humphries Poli Architects, P.C. a Denver based design firm honored as the AIA Western Mountain Region firm of the year in 2008. The firm’s 15 year history has been celebrated with over 40 design honors from various professional organizations. Humphries Poli Architects was founded with an emphasis on exploring digital design as an invaluable tool to enhancing the design/delivery process. Revit has been the exclusive design software of the firm since 2004. Dennis is a holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois/Urbana and is a currently an instructor at the University of Colorado College of Architecture and Design/Denver in the graduate program.

As a Design-Build/BIM Manager for JE Dunn Construction Company Rocky Mountain, Mr. Schroeder works with an in-house staff of architects and engineers focused on overall project coordination, constructability and QA/QC. Since joining JE Dunn in 2007 he has been focused on leveraging the power of BIM to eliminate waste and rework and improve the design and construction process. Mr. Schroeder is responsible for updating and maintaining Company Standard Operating Procedures regarding the use of BIM, assuring all JE Dunn projects in the Rocky Mountain Region are built according to Company QAQC Standards and measuring ROI for projects using BIM. Prior to joining JE Dunn, he spent 8 years as a consulting structural engineer where he managed the design and construction of a wide array of commercial building projects and 2 years as a Design Phase Manager for another general contractor.

Dave received is B.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) from the University of Wisconsin. He holds professional registration in Colorado and is a LEED Accredited Professional and has completed requirements for DBIA designation. Mr. Schroeder has served on the Steel Liaison Committee for the Structural Engineers Association of Colorado (SEAC) and is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

Derek Cunz
Director of Project Development, M. A. Mortenson

Derek Cunz is the Director of Project Development for M. A. Mortenson Company’s Colorado Operating Group. Prior to relocating to Denver, Derek was a project manager on the Walt Disney Concert Hall project in Los Angeles. Derek joined Mortenson in 1995 in their Advanced Technology Group. During his tenure with Mortenson, he has traveled extensively, building complex and technical projects in Northern Ireland, California, Colorado, Minnesota and Massachusetts. Derek is a leader in the industry and within Mortenson in the implementation and utilization of advanced technology and innovative building practices. Derek collaborated with the Center for Innovative Facilities Engineering at Stanford University in the development and implementation of 4D modeling on the Disney Concert Hall project. Two projects Derek has been involved in have won the AIA Technology in Architectural Practice BIM award. Engineering News Record named Derek a Top 25 Newsmaker in 2006 recognizing his contribution to the design and construction industry.

Derek has been a speaker at various forums and conferences on the subject of Building Information Modeling and Virtual Design and Construction, including the American Institute of Architects, American Institute of Steel Contractors, Society of American Military Engineers, University of Denver, Construction Industry Institute, Design Build Institute of America, University of Colorado, Stanford University, the American Bar Association, and Technology for Construction.
