Pinnacle Infotech undertook the Career Technical High School project for mechanical ducting services. Located at 1331 Kerlerec Street, New Orleans, LA 70116, the building had approximately 145,000 sq ft structure spread across 3.4 acres of land area.

It required the demolition of the existing 3-story building followed by selective demolition of interior walls, ceilings, finishes, and MEP systems.

This further included above‐ground and subsurface demolition of concrete, masonry, steel structures, structural slabs and foundations, paving, curbs, walks and ramps, underground and above-ground utilities to public way outside of the property, landscaping, electrical service and equipment, gravel, and portions of existing fencing in order to meet the owner program and design requirements.

Scope Of Work:

  • Mechanical ducting 3D model, Clash co-ordination
  • Shop Drawing/2D Drawing
  • Floor Penetration Drawings with Trimble files
  • Existing Wall Opening
  • Duct Leak Testing Report
  • BOQ of Round Ducts
  • CAM Drawings

Challenges & Solutions:

Challenge 1:

The client wanted value optimization to be addressed through the course of execution. This added to the complexities in terms of carrying out the project and increased the chances of production lags and process halts.

Solution 1:

We raised RFIs and communicated with the client through weekly review meetings. We took the client's suggestion before dealing with any coordination issue such as rerouting of the duct. We also created some fabrication scripts and shared them with the client to meet the requirement of sheet metal CAM.

Challenge 2:

RMS fabrication was one of the challenges

Solution 2:

To support RMS fabrication, team Pinnacle prepared the sheet metal CAM drawing. It helped in overcoming fabrication challenges and executing construction in a timely manner.

Challenge 3:

Managing existing wall openings during the model development and coordination process also posed challenges with getting the expected results.

Solution 3:

Pinnacle incorporated the coordination plan for the existing wall opening throughout the model development process to achieve the ideal output.

Pinnacle’s Value Addition:

  • There were various markups and revisions in the document due to changed construction requirements. The Pinnacle BIM team worked diligently to adhere to the changes in the model to coherently review and validate the changed requirements.
  • Pinnacle created Trimble files with the help of Trimble Fill Point Software for floor penetration.
  • Created the CAM drawings and provided the solution to overcome fabrication challenges and enhance productivity in a timely manner.
  • Provided the duct leak testing report for testing the leakage prior to running the overall system, which prevented any possible delivery lags and functional failures.
