Establishing the base geometry : A 2D drafting tool like AutoCAD having file extensions such as *.dwg provides smooth data transition into any 3D CAD system. Data such as dimensions, line type parameters and layers are filtered before being actually imported into the 2D to 3D module. The process leads to effective and accurate conversion from 2D to 3D.

Identification of projected geometry : For seamless data transition from a 2D CAD package to a 3D parametric CAD tool, an effective technique is essential to enable quick and accurate orientation of data from various views. The process can be established by orienting various views into a box, which provides all three planes, viz. XY – YZ – ZX, since a 3D model can be viewed from six different orientations.

Alignment of various geometric views : The basic views necessary for creation of a 3D Model are identified first. Orientation and alignment are important for extruding the 3D model. These alignments are generally carried out using a basic translation technique which usually includes only move command to appropriate plane, since other techniques cannot provide an accurate 3D model.

Extrude (Boolean operation) : This process guards the final 3D Part model from errors and makes it ready for use. The user must use the sketch properly, since, once used for extrusion or Boolean the sketch cannot be used again. The process of cut and intersect is generally used for arriving at the final model.
