What is BIM?

BIM or Building Information Modeling refers to the process by which building data is generated and managed during its life cycle.
It generally uses real-time, three-dimensional, dynamic building modeling software in an effort to increase productivity in the construction and design of buildings. This model encompasses spatial relationships, building geometry, geographic information
as well as quantities and properties of building components.

What are the benefits of using BIM?

BIM facilitates prompt decision making and flawless construction planning through seamless collaboration between architects, engineers, contractors and sub-contractors. BIM enables quick identification of problems and helps to avert system clashes.
This saves time and cost.

What is Revit?

Revit is a type of Building Information Modeling software. It allows designing through parametric modeling and contains drafting elements. Revit provides a system in which if a change is made anywhere in the model, it is instantly reflected everywhere else without any user interaction. Revit’s relational database architecture allows a BIM model to contain the building’s full life cycle. The relational database is also known as the parametric change engine. Revit is a single file database that can be shared by multiple users.

How is BIM used to design MEP?

MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing ) planning and coordination is vital for the success of a construction project. BIM supports MEP by creating a visually interactive model of the construction project showing all of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing utilities.

How does BIM benefit HVAC?

Building Information Modeling allows for the easy extraction of heating, ventilating and air conditioning data from its 3D model. BIM also facilitates better coordination between the architectural designer and HVAC designer by allowing an exchange of models.

How does BIM benefit AEC?

Building Information Modeling plays an important role for the architecture, engineering and construction segment. Despite the advent of technical tools, coordination is still a major challenge for architects, engineers and contractors. This is why the AEC industry is currently embracing BIM to remove redundancies and inefficiencies within the industry. The goal is to improve communication and collaboration to enhance overall productivity.

How is BIM different from CAD drawing?

BIM produces intelligent, parametric 3D models and provides a lot of information regarding the construction project, unlike 2D CAD drafting. The construction documents of BIM are created much faster than in 2D CAD drafting and contains information about materials, quantities and other data relevant for both construction and management of a building.
